Nature has made many, many wonderful rocks formed by glaciers and water settling in many layers of soil, water, etc. It is so rewarding to gather rocks and see the layers! I have rocks from all over the world. I make slabs by slicing them with my lapidary saws. Some agates are very hard and others are very soft. There are many combinations of several different minerals in one rock. After I slab the rock, I must decide which part of the rock I want to make my cabochon out of before I can trim it to shape. I draw my shape or use it free style. I have three diamond grinding wheels for fine-tuning the shape and three polishing wheels. A final polish is sometimes needed to create a great shine.

I must then decide if I want to wire wrap the piece with 14K hold filled wire or sterling silver wire. I use different gauges of wire and some are with round wire. I use mostly square wire. I try to find beads to compliment the cabs and I will string a necklace and I also make earrings and sell them as a set. I sell many pendants separately because the person might have a chain at home and might be the length they prefer.

Next time you go to the beach or go for a walk – LOOK DOWN – You may just find something wonderful and it can be polished and wire wrapped into a one of a kind pendant. Who knows!

I like to make earrings, wrist and ankle bracelets. Bola ties and belt buckles look very unique made from a polished rock. Fossils are interesting too, and can be made into really beautiful pieces of jewelry. Please come and see me and say ‘Hi”.

The pieces in this picture are only a few examples of my work… I sure hope to see you real soon at the Sequim Open Aire Market this season.!!!!
