Ensuring our quality of life by protecting sustainable farms and farming in eastern Clallam County, Washington.
Among the specific areas our organization will concentrate on are the following:
Rural Development. The rural development umbrella covers a number of activities including the acquisition and retirement of land development rights, development of agritourism, and development of alternative new crops and alternative agriculture. We will effect a linkage between current and future farms and farmers to insure the continuity of agriculture in the area.
Environment. We will work to develop and assist with installation of on-farm wildlife habitat improvements, reduction of any potentially harmful effluent from farm operations, and irrigation improvements that optimize the use of irrigation water and minimize the impact on in stream resources.
Research. We will initiate and/or participate in studies that determine sustainable techniques and methods for growing and harvesting current and new crops or for the improvement of the economic viability of our farms.
Education. We will conduct activities that educate the public about the positive values of having a mixed rural economy and the steps that are required if we are to maintain this desirable heritage -- including youth programs, field trips, farm days, media coverage, etc.
Major Goals:
Conserve farmland
Develop profitable agricultural alternatives
Promote agritourism
Educate citizens about the importance of local agriculture and buying local agricultural products
Work to keep local agriculture harmonious with nature
